NASA Green-Lights $16.5 Million to Advance Future Jets

Engineers are trying to develop what some call a “magic skin” that can protect airplanes against lightning and electromagnetic interference. Four research teams will split $16.5 million from NASA to continue developing quieter, cleaner, and more fuel-efficient jets. With $1.9 million of the share, Cessna will focus on airplane structure, particularly the aircraft outer covering. The skin would heal itself if punctured or torn and help insulate the cabin from noise, NASA says.

$6.99M Contract for Rapid Attack Identification, Detection System

The United States Air Force has awarded a $6.99 million contract to Integral Systems Inc., to build the first two deployment sites for the Rapid Attack Identification, Detection and Reporting System, which will provide near real-time event detection, characterization, geolocation and electromagnetic interference reporting for critical satellite communications systems.
