Application Note #112: Amplifier Types & Operation

This application note describes outlines the different "Amplifier Types and Operation" of each amplifier.

Topic:
A common question concerning amplifiers in general, and the operation of our T-Series or GT-Series amplifiers, is if there is a way to Pulse Modulate them at a low Duty Cycle where these model amplifiers can produce higher power levels. This discussion and question is not new, it has been scuttlebutt and talk in the industry for decades. This Application Note describes the operation of the different types of amplifiers, CW, Pulse/CW (Gridded) and our Pulse models and the relationship between CW and Pulse power and what can be expected or produced from each of the different types of model amplifiers.

Example question: Is it possible to get more peak power (6% duty cycle or less) from a GT-Series or T-Series unit where each have CW ratings? Can we get more than 250 watts if we run a GT or T-Series amp at a 6% duty cycle or less or are we still limited by the CW saturated power?
